Art from Liechtenstein

For the first time, Liechtenstein presents itself in the environment of the Biennale Arte Venezia with its own exhibition.
But what will be on show?

About the video installation by Karin Ospelt

"Klafter" (2024)
Video, 27 min.
Beetroot on snow

Karin Ospelt's work is characterized by an intensive examination of organic material and its sensual experience.
The starting point is observing research with carefully selected raw materials: Liechtenstein snow and beetroot.
The video work shows a ritual cycle, an ephemeral painting, a stamp impression with juice on snow.
Karin Ospelt gives the material and its movement a lot of space and time. Topics such as the different management of land, economic land value and the use of resources contrast with the value creation process of art, which appears more fleeting. Questions are raised about one's own roots, cyclical value creation and homeland. What cannot be put into words becomes a red vein that Karin Ospelt constantly pursues.

In Liechtenstein, we talk about a Klafter, which clearly has a value.

  • In the Principality of Liechtenstein, the square Klafter was commonly used to measure land areas until 2017. 1 m² corresponds to 0.278036 square Klafter, 1 square Klafter corresponds to 3.596652 m². The Klafter as a unit of length is therefore approx. 1.8965 m long.
